WD/2018 Parfum

Patricia Bilodeau found the inspiration for WD/2018 on a ferry ride in New York. A heavily weathered piece of wood was floating in the water as the setting sun illuminated its rough surface. From this contrast, she developed a fragrance that combines cool fruitiness with light, water-smoothed woods.

At first, the pear is juicy but not syrupy sweet. Violet leaf gives it a green, light freshness, while cardamom adds a dry spiciness. This makes the opening feel lively and cool, without smelling like a classic citrus or aquatic perfume.

At the heart, iris noticeably changes the fragrance. Its powdery, finely earthy character takes some of the fruitiness away from the pear. Cypress brings the fragrance back to the woods and evokes green branches and aromatic resin. Amyris—also known as West Indian sandalwood—combines these more austere impressions with a mild, slightly balsamic woody note.

Sandalwood shapes the fragrance’s development, but remains lighter and drier than in many rich sandalwood compositions. Light cedarwood recalls freshly sanded wood, while Madagascar vetiver adds a rooty, slightly smoky bitterness. The pear does not disappear completely, but remains as a cool, fruity shimmer over the woods.

WD/2018 is therefore neither a typical pear fragrance nor a heavy sandalwood perfume. Its distinctive character comes from the interplay of juicy fruit, powdery iris, green branches, and dry wood. The fragrance is particularly well suited to people who enjoy woody perfumes but are looking for more freshness and dynamism.

Application

• Spray the Eau de Parfum from a distance of approximately 15–20 cm onto warm areas of skin such as the neck, wrists, crooks of the arms, or behind the ears.
• Do not rub your wrists together after application, so that the individual fragrance phases can develop as authentically as possible.
• Begin with two to three sprays. Pear, violet leaf, and cardamom are initially more prominent, while iris, sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver become more pronounced over time.
• Perfume often lasts longer on well-moisturized skin. For this purpose, it is best to use an unscented body lotion.
• On clothing, iris, sandalwood, cedarwood, and vetiver in particular may remain perceptible for longer. Test sensitive or light-colored fabrics on an inconspicuous area first.
• Store protected from heat and direct sunlight.

What is amyris?
