Facial Cleansing for Men
Healthy facial care for men starts with the right cleansing. Our gentle cleansing gels, foams, and oil cleansers are based on natural ingredients and mild surfactants. They thoroughly remove excess sebum and dirt without drying out or irritating sensitive men's skin. This leaves the skin calm, clear, and refreshed after cleansing.
Additionally, our products reliably clear even clogged pores of deposits and optimally prepare the skin to absorb subsequent skincare products – for a well-groomed and healthy complexion.
What distinguishes men's skin from women's skin?
Men's skin is often thicker, oilier, and produces more sebum than women's skin. This is mainly due to higher testosterone levels, which activate the sebaceous glands more strongly. As a result, men's skin tends to have more clogged pores and blemishes, while also being more resilient to external influences. However, men can also suffer from dry or irritated skin, especially in winter or in the cheek and chin areas due to frequent shaving.
Additionally, men's skin has a higher collagen content and a thicker stratum corneum, making it firmer and causing fine lines to usually appear later than in women. However, wrinkles in men can often become deeper and more pronounced later on, especially if you do not use UV protection.
Therefore, many men need a cleansing gel or foam tailored to combination or oily skin. Despite increased sebum production, the cleansing should be mild to avoid drying out the skin or damaging its protective barrier, as aggressive cleansing products can irritate the skin.
Which facial cleanser is right for me?
If you tend to have oily skin with pimples and blackheads, clarifying facial soaps or masks with activated charcoal, volcanic mud, or clay are perfect for removing excess sebum and dead skin cells. Additionally, tea tree oil, salicylic acid, and zinc are important active ingredients that have anti-inflammatory effects and effectively cleanse pores. Regular use helps prevent blemishes and visibly improves the complexion.
For dry and shaving-irritated skin, cleansers should be especially gentle and nourishing to avoid further stressing the skin. Mild foaming cleansing gels or balms with valuable oils such as milk thistle, evening primrose, kukui nut, avocado, or tamanu oil and extracts from chamomile, spirulina blue-green algae, and calendula soothe stressed skin.
The right order: Facial cleansing or shaving first?
You should wash your face with a facial cleanser before shaving. This thoroughly cleans the skin of dirt, excess sebum, and dead skin cells and optimally prepares the skin for shaving. Clean, well-prepared skin helps the blade glide better and prevents skin irritation or ingrown hairs.
After shaving, it is better to rinse the face with clear, lukewarm water and then use a mild alcohol-free toner to soothe and care for the skin. Washing again with cleansers immediately after shaving can unnecessarily dry out or irritate the skin.
Do I need a facial mask or exfoliant?
Men's skin also benefits from regular use of facial masks or exfoliants. An exfoliant removes dead skin cells, promotes cell renewal, and creates a smoother, fresher complexion, which is ideal before shaving to prevent ingrown hairs.
Facial masks provide intensive care depending on skin type: clarifying for blemished skin, moisturizing for dry skin, or soothing after shaving. Used once or twice a week, exfoliants and masks perfectly complement your skincare routine.
