The nail polishes are now completely free of Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, a commonly used adhesive in nail polishes that, by some definitions, is considered liquid microplastic.

Application

• Clean your nails and remove oily residues.
• Then apply a layer of base coat. We recommend using the Vegan Base Coat.
• After the base coat has dried, apply the nail polish thinly two to three times.
• Finish with the Vegan Top Coat.
• We also recommend completely removing the nail polish once or twice a week to further care for your nails.

New Formula

Kia Charlotta:

Not only have we expanded our “free from” list to 15 (previously 14), but we also now have an overall improved formula. Don’t worry, it’s quite similar to our previous composition, but some ingredients have been removed and others added. Check the table below to compare our new formula with the previous one.

The changes in the formula may be minor, but their impact is significant, and here’s why:

1. FREE OF MICROPLASTICS

The first major difference between the previous and new formula is that our new formula contains no Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer or Acrylates Copolymer. When we searched for a new nail polish formula, we wanted to see if we could develop one without these two ingredients. Depending on the definition, they are sometimes classified as microplastics and sometimes not. Over the years, however, we have learned much more about microplastics in general, and although Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer and Acrylates Copolymer are officially not classified as microplastics (because they are not solid), they are often referred to as liquid forms of microplastics.

2. WITH MALTOL

Another small but significant difference is the inclusion of Maltol in our new formula. Maltol is a naturally occurring organic compound commonly used as a flavoring agent. In our nail polish, however, we do not use Maltol for flavor but for something quite different. It has been shown that Maltol significantly reduces the formation of nitrosamines, which can form in very small amounts from nitrocellulose. This is truly groundbreaking because it is almost impossible to make a nail polish without nitrocellulose that lasts long, doesn’t chip too quickly, and dries fast enough. Most nail polishes on the market, whether toxin-free or more natural, contain nitrocellulose. So we are very happy to have found an ingredient that significantly minimizes the potential formation of nitrosamines from nitrocellulose.

3. MADE WITH 100% PLANT-BASED SOLVENTS

One of the main components of a nail polish is its solvents, and in our formula, we use ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. These can be derived either petrochemically or from plants. In our nail polish colors, these ingredients are 100% plant-based.

4. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NAIL POLISH

Although a nail polish can never be 100% natural, recyclable, and/or biodegradable, we have done our best to develop the most environmentally friendly version of a nail polish we could make. Not only are the solvents in our nail polish colors 100% plant-based (instead of petrochemical origin), our nail polishes also contain no Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer or Acrylates Copolymer (considered liquid microplastics by some definitions), which are found in almost all other nail polishes, whether conventional or natural. Furthermore, we have deliberately chosen 5ml bottles to minimize unnecessary nail polish waste. We also use no plastic in our packaging and only FSC-certified and/or recycled paper. We believe Kia Charlotta nail polishes are probably the most sustainable option you can find on the market.

5. HIGHEST QUALITY

Our mission at Kia Charlotta is to produce 100% vegan makeup and nail polish products of premium quality. This means we make no compromises and strive to find the perfect balance between quality and safe/natural as well as vegan ingredients. Even though we avoid the most harmful ingredients and animal-derived ingredients, you can be sure that we do not compromise on quality. Our nail polishes last on average between 4-7 days and have a beautiful, opaque, glossy finish.

6. 100% VEGAN & CRUELTY-FREE
