Mélissa Artis: Visionary and heart of Waekura

Behind the sustainable jewelry brand Waekura is the founder Mélissa Artis. Mélissa has always had a fondness for beautiful jewelry. Already during her studies in e-commerce, she began buying and selling jewelry. But she quickly realized: there was a lack of modern jewelry that is high-quality, affordable, made in France, sustainable, and at the same time suitable for everyday wear.

From this vision, she took the step into self-employment in 2017 together with her husband and business partner Philip. What started as a small family adventure developed into an independent jewelry brand with clear values, great passion, and a high creative standard.

Waekura creates jewelry you can only dream of: modern, timeless, and durable. The name Waekura means "Flamingo" in Maori. This name is reflected in the designs and invites the wearer on a journey of discovery.

The creations accompany women through all stages of life – from everyday moments to special occasions. Discreet, elegant, and indispensable. The minimalist jewelry pieces can be effortlessly combined and always set high-quality accents that emphasize personality and individuality.

Waekura has long since made a name for itself beyond France. The brand has a strong online presence and operates two boutiques in Paris, where the modern brand world comes to life. Waekura remains a deliberately small team, where everyone plays multiple roles – and that makes the brand so approachable.

Inspiration and design process

Every collection begins with a moodboard: colors, shapes, images, texts, and atmospheres come together to form a universe that defines the common thread of the designs. Particularly influential are the Mediterranean and southern influences – golden light, natural shades, and summery textures.

“I am inspired by summery textures and the light of the South to create jewelry that is simple, durable, and always easy to wear.”
– Mélissa Artis, founder of Waekura

In this atmosphere, initial sketches and finally prototypes are created in selected workshops. One goal is always in focus: lightweight, comfortable jewelry that is ideal for everyday use.

Waekura's product range is diverse. From rings, earrings & hoops to bracelets, necklaces, piercings, and charms – ideal for individual combinations. All jewelry pieces are designed to complement each other and highlight personal style.

Sustainable jewelry with style

Quality and sustainability go hand in hand at Waekura. Sustainability is at the heart of the brand concept – the result is durable jewelry that does not need to be replaced every season.

All jewelry is made from recycled brass in Spain, China, France, or Germany. Afterwards, they are gold-plated using a gentle electrolysis process in French family workshops. Most pieces are made of 18 karat gold (1 micron), while rings, due to their higher wear, are made of 14 karat gold (3 microns).

Silver-colored jewelry is made from the precious metal palladium. Palladium is a valuable precious metal from the platinum family, which is harder and more resistant to oxidation than silver.

“When I founded Waekura, I wanted jewelry I could wear every day without thinking much about it. Jewelry that withstands life – water, light, everything. Even today, I still wear some pieces from our first collections – and they still sparkle just as beautifully. That’s exactly what I want to give: sunny, durable jewelry that tells stories over time.” – Mélissa Artis, founder of Waekura

The result: sustainable jewelry that is water-resistant, hypoallergenic (nickel-free), weatherproof, and durable and does not tarnish.

Waekura shows that sustainable jewelry doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. The brand relies on recycled materials, durable designs, and conscious production in Europe. Mindful consumption is encouraged through modular concepts like the popular charms, which allow hoop earrings to be redesigned again and again. This creates individual looks and diverse combination options.

Waekura – sustainable jewelry to fall in love with

Waekura offers high-quality, fair, and unique jewelry for all women. Julia also fell in love with Waekura’s beautiful jewelry from the very beginning. She is especially fond of the Louison Earrings, which, as she describes in her latest article, are among her absolute favorite pieces.

The brand impresses with clear, minimalist designs that don’t have to be loud to stand out. At the same time, sustainability is at the core, resulting in durable, timeless creations – consciously made and crafted with attention to detail. For women who combine style, quality, and responsibility.💗
