At the heart of the formula is the interaction of water-binding and lipid-rich ingredients. Aloe vera, glycerin, honey, and polysaccharides from Indian senna help retain moisture in the skin. Mango and shea butter, along with avocado, jojoba, borage, evening primrose, broccoli, and sea buckthorn oils, simultaneously replenish the skin with valuable lipids and reduce moisture loss through the skin's surface.

• Indian senna (Cassia Angustifolia) provides long-chain polysaccharides that bind water and form a fine, flexible moisture film on the skin. As a result, moisture-depleted skin may appear plumper, smoother, and less tight. The ingredient is often referred to as “botanical hyaluronic acid.” Chemically, however, it is not hyaluronic acid - the main similarity between the two is their pronounced ability to bind moisture. Josh Rosebrook makes the senna extract used in the formula in-house.
• Aloe vera, glycerin, gum arabic, and honey complement the senna polysaccharides to create a multilayered moisture matrix. Aloe vera contributes additional polysaccharides, glycerin binds water in the stratum corneum as a proven humectant, and gum arabic forms a fine plant-based film. Honey naturally contains various sugars and other moisture-binding components. This helps ensure that water is not only added temporarily but retained as effectively as possible in the outermost layer of the skin.
• Mango and shea butter provide the cream's rich lipid base. Their blend of oleic, stearic, and other fatty acids forms a protective layer over the skin, softens rough areas, and helps reduce transepidermal water loss. Mango butter contributes significantly to the cream melting softly instead of sitting waxily on the skin despite its richness.
• Avocado and jojoba oils complement the plant butters with different lipid structures. Avocado oil is rich in oleic and palmitic acids as well as natural phytosterols. Jojoba, on the other hand, consists primarily of liquid wax esters that resemble components of natural sebum and spread especially finely. The combination provides suppleness without making the formula unnecessarily heavy.
• Borage and evening primrose oils are among the particularly interesting oils for dry and sensitive-feeling skin. In addition to linoleic acid, both contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) - a less common polyunsaturated fatty acid that fits very well into barrier-focused lipid care.
• Broccoli seed oil primarily improves the skin feel. Its long-chain fatty acids give formulations exceptionally smooth, almost silicone-like glide. This allows the rich balm cream to spread especially finely and feel much more elegant than the high concentration of plant butters and oils might suggest.
• Sea buckthorn oil and vitamin E complement the lipid phase with antioxidant plant compounds. Sea buckthorn contains natural carotenoids and tocopherols, while vitamin E additionally helps protect sensitive lipids from oxidation. Both contribute to a supple, well-cared-for skin feel.
• Calendula, marshmallow, licorice, ashwagandha, and turmeric represent the complex herbal base of Josh Rosebrook. Calendula and marshmallow are particularly well suited to dry and sensitive-feeling skin, while licorice, turmeric, and ashwagandha contribute various polyphenols and other secondary plant compounds. Important for the Unscented version: The botanical complexity remains, but the essential oils in the classic Vital Balm Cream are consistently omitted.

How to use

• Apply morning and/or evening as the final step of your skincare routine to the face and neck.
• The cream feels especially pleasant on slightly damp skin, for example after Hydrating Accelerator.
• Distribute a small amount between your fingertips and gently press or massage it into the face and neck.
• For dry skin, you can also apply a hydrating serum such as Hydration Boost Concentrate beforehand.
• Apply serums and facial oils before the Vital Balm Cream Unscented.
• In the morning, follow with sunscreen.
• The texture may become softer at higher temperatures. Cooler storage will restore more firmness to the cream.

FAQ

What distinguishes the Unscented version from the regular Vital Balm Cream?
The nourishing base is nearly identical. However, the Unscented version omits the essential oils of blue tansy, ylang-ylang, and lavender, as well as the aromatic vanilla component. This makes it especially suitable for people who consciously wish to avoid fragrances and essential oils.

Is the Vital Balm Cream Unscented truly fragrance-free?
It contains no added fragrance and no essential oils. Since natural plant butters, oils, and herbal extracts can have their own raw-material scent, it is nevertheless not completely odorless.

Is it intended only for sensitive skin?
No. The cream is generally suitable for all skin types. However, it is especially interesting for dry, dehydrated, sensitive, or reactive skin, as well as for anyone who prefers rich care without essential oils.

What does “botanical hyaluronic acid” mean?
