- What are the main differences? Can I simply use the razor like a conventional multi-blade razor?
We recommend starting slowly to get used to handling it. These blades are sharper than many plastic razors, so we suggest a gentle introduction. With smooth, light movements, you can then shave as usual. And please allow enough time—don’t rush.
If you have shaved with plastic razors before, switching will not be a problem.
- What is the best angle for shaving? What is the best technique to use the razor?
Honestly, even if you feel a bit intimidated at first, use the razor just like your current razor. Hold the handle at a maximum angle of 30 degrees and let it glide gently over the skin. Our recommendation is to hold the razor lightly on the skin without pressure and shave with long, even strokes rather than quick, short strokes with firm pressure.
- A zero-waste lifestyle and this razor seem to go perfectly together. One of my only concerns is inserting the blades. I’m afraid of cuts! What can I do?
You don’t need to reassemble the razor every time. Simply replace the blade every 5-7 shaves, similar to a conventional razor. After doing it a few times, it really becomes easy. We recommend doing this before showering with dry hands. We also have instructions and a video on the website if you feel unsure.
- Does the Well Kept razor cause fewer skin irritations?
Absolutely! We find that with just one blade, there are virtually no skin irritations.
- Does the razor work just as well as my other razor?
We can say yes 100%. We find the shave superior to any multi-blade razor we have used. The shave is smoother and lasts longer.
- Do you need to use a special shaving soap?
No, no special shaving soap is required. You can use a shaving oil (my favorite!) or a traditional soap.
- How do you change the blade?
Changing the blade is really simple. There are only three parts. Unscrew the handle, take apart the blade head, insert the blade, and screw it back together. It’s easiest to lay all parts on the countertop while you change it. We recommend changing the blade with dry hands, not in the shower. And of course, be careful when handling the blade.
We have a video on the website showing how to change the blade.
- Where can I get new blades?
All standard single blades for safety razors can be used. Blades can be bought at drugstores, supermarkets, or online. Or of course, from our shop. Replacement blades for safety razors are much cheaper than typical Gillette and Venus cartridges! There are several manufacturers offering single blades. Our personal favorite is Astra blades.
- Any tips for recycling the blades?
You will enjoy the razor for a very long time. Solid brass practically doesn’t break. And there is absolutely no plastic in the razor. The only thing you need to do is collect and dispose of the old blades. We recommend collecting all used blades in a small container and taking them to your local recycling center.
- And how long do you use one blade?
We recommend changing the blade after 3 to 4 shaves. Basically, the sharper the blade, the easier and better the shave.
- And how much does the razor cost? I would really like to get started.
The initial cost of the razor is naturally higher, but since the blades are much cheaper, it doesn’t take long for the safety razor to pay for itself. In the long run, the razor is cheaper than cartridge razors.
- Can the razor be carried in my hand luggage on flights?
We don’t believe razor blades are allowed in hand luggage. But you should check the current regulations for your specific airline. If in doubt, take the razor without blades and buy blades at your destination.
