Rahua: Hair Care from the Rainforest

Rahua represents the connection of pristine nature and modern performance. The brand was founded in 2008 by Fabian Lliguin and Anna Ayers – a couple who, out of love for hair, nature, and justice, shaped an idea that today has a worldwide following.

Rahua stands for an idea as simple as it is powerful: to combine traditional knowledge from the Amazon with modern, vegan hair care. Inspired by experiences in the rainforest and collaboration with indigenous communities, the brand was founded in 2008. Rahua Hair Care came about by a wonderful coincidence. Fabian, originally a hairdresser in New York, traveled the Amazon as an environmental activist to learn about sustainability and culture. There he encountered the Quechua-Shuar communities who have used a golden oil from the Ungurahua nut for centuries to keep their hair shiny and strong. He was so impressed by its effectiveness that he brought the knowledge of these communities to New York. Together with his wife Anna – a designer and trend researcher with a keen sense for beauty and ethics – he founded Rahua to create hair care that works exceptionally well and protects threefold: people, nature, and cultural heritage.

Today, more than 500 families from Quechua-Shuar and neighboring tribes collaborate with the brand to sustainably provide the raw materials.

At the heart of the brand is Ungurahua oil (also called Rahua oil). It is rich in omega-9 fatty acids and has exceptionally small molecules that penetrate deep into the hair fiber. This strengthens the hair from within, smooths the surface, and provides natural shine. This principle of deep regenerating care runs through all formulas – from the classic shampoo, through conditioner, to the hair mask.

But Rahua is more than just an active ingredient concept. With every bottle, you help preserve the biodiversity of the Amazon. Rahua combines traditional raw materials with modern effectiveness. In addition to the iconic Ungurahua oil, other ingredients provide shine, elasticity, and protection:

• Palo Santo Oil – the “holy wood” of the Incas, acts antibacterial, harmonizing, and gives Rahua products their warm, earthy scent.
• Morete Oil – rich in provitamin A and antioxidants, it supports regeneration and protects hair and skin from UV rays and free radicals.
• Sacha Inchi Oil – strengthens the scalp, reduces frizz, soothes irritation, and retains moisture thanks to a high omega-3 content.
