The Hug

The Hug from This Place is a warming period cream for days when the lower abdomen, lower back, or midsection feel tense, heavy, or sensitive.

The cream is gently massaged in and combines plant-based active ingredients with warmth, scent, and touch – as a small ritual that feels good during PMS, menstruation, or emotionally sensitive phases of the cycle.

The formula combines ginger, St. John's wort, chaste tree, maritime pine, capsicum, frankincense, sandalwood, and marjoram with a nourishing base of jojoba oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and glycerin. Ginger and capsicum support a warm, activating body sensation, while St. John's wort, chaste tree, frankincense, and sandalwood have a calming and balancing effect.

• Ginger brings warmth and activation to the application. On the skin, it supports a stimulated, better-blood-circulated feeling and makes the massage more intense. This is useful for the lower abdomen or lower back when the midsection feels heavy, cold, or tense during the period.
• Capsicum comes from paprika or chili fruits and is known for its warming effect. It creates a noticeable warming sensation on the skin and can help release tense areas. In The Hug, capsicum supports the physical effect of the massage: warmth, circulation, and the feeling that the lower abdomen can become softer and more relaxed again.
• St. John's wort is traditionally associated with calm, balance, and a relaxed body feeling. It fits well with cycle moments when not only the body feels tense but mood, sensitivity, or inner restlessness are more noticeable.
• Chaste tree is traditionally linked to cycle balance. In The Hug, it supports a more balanced body feeling during PMS and menstruation – especially when the lower abdomen, back, or mood feel more sensitive and tense.
• Frankincense brings a warm, resinous depth to the cream and shapes the calm, grounding scent. In skincare, frankincense is valued for its balancing and anti-inflammatory properties. In The Hug, it combines the nourishing effect with a scent that helps focus attention back on the body.

Usage

• Place a hazelnut-sized amount of The Hug in your palms and warm it briefly. Inhale the scent consciously, then apply the cream to the lower abdomen or lower back.
• Massage in with slow, circular movements for at least two minutes. The pressure may be pleasantly firm but should never become uncomfortable. Use 1 to 2 times daily or as needed during PMS and menstruation.
• Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and irritated skin. Wash hands after use. Not formulated for children's skin. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, or with sensitive skin or known sensitivity to essential oils, St. John's wort, capsicum, or fragrances, test carefully or consult a doctor.

Active Ingredients

• Jojoba oil (Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil) – Its high fatty acid content makes the skin soft, supple, and resilient. The oil has antibacterial properties, absorbs quickly, and contains vitamins B, E, minerals, and beta-carotene (provitamin A). It strengthens cell development and renewal, combats skin aging, and reinforces the skin's natural protective barrier. Also very suitable for hair and scalp care. Incidentally, jojoba oil is technically not an oil but a plant wax.
• St. John's wort (Hypericum Perforatum Extract) has calming, relaxing, healing, and antiseptic properties. It is very well tolerated, promotes regeneration of the upper skin layer, and refines the skin texture. It has long been valued for its mood-enhancing and balancing effects. Also good for hair care.
• Chaste tree – As a herbal remedy for menstrual complaints and pain, chaste tree (also called Vitex agnus-castus) has a long tradition. Used in ancient Greece to increase fertility, chaste tree is also frequently mentioned as gentle support during menstruation. This is mainly due to its ability to regulate the hormonal balance. It is also said to have soothing, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory effects.
  
• The mystical substance frankincense (Boswellia Carterii Resin Extract/Oil) is familiar to most by its scent. Frankincense oil or extract is obtained from the resin of the Boswellia tree and has been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Frankincense is considered an anti-inflammatory with over 200 active substances. Boswellic acid exerts its calming and anti-inflammatory effects especially on impure skin, neurodermatitis, or rosacea-prone skin.
• Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii nut butter) is obtained from the fruit of the karité tree. Shea butter has a long tradition as a care and healing agent. Rich in unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, the butter protects against environmental stress, binds moisture, fights free radicals, promotes cell regeneration, and makes skin and hair soft and supple.
• Grape seed oil (Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil) has a high content of linoleic acid and vitamins E and K. It is considered an oil with exceptionally strong antioxidant and cell-protective properties. The oil promotes skin elasticity, has anti-inflammatory properties, and regulates sebum production.
• Coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera Oil) protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals and premature aging. Its high lauric acid content gives the oil antifungal and antibacterial properties. Coconut oil is comedogenic but still helps against impurities and is suitable for acne-prone and sensitive skin. It moisturizes and makes the skin supple.
• Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Oil) is rich in vitamin C and contains various trace elements such as magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, sodium, and phosphorus. Ginger has antibacterial and clarifying effects, stimulates microcirculation of the vessels, and promotes a fresher, healthier, and radiant complexion.
• Capsaicin is derived from fruits of the Capsicum plants, such as paprika or chili peppers. Applied to the skin, the active ingredient produces a pain-relieving effect and indirectly a warming sensation. Its circulation-promoting properties can help relieve cramps.
• Essential sandalwood oil (Santalum spicatum wood oil) acts disinfectingly, antiseptically, and combats acne-causing bacteria. Its astringent effect makes large pores appear smaller and can regulate sebum production. It is also said to be mildly aphrodisiac and mood-enhancing. It emits a warm scent that makes you feel at home.
