CBD

What is CBD?

The abbreviation CBD stands for cannabidiol, a natural phytocannabinoid of the hemp plant. Hemp is one of the oldest cultivated plants and has been used for centuries – whether for making clothing, as food, or as medicine. CBD, alongside THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance of the hemp plant), is one of the best-known active ingredients of hemp. Compared to THC, CBD is defined by its non-psychoactive effect: mood, perception, and consciousness are not affected by its intake. The terpenes contained in the hemp plant can enhance the properties of the cannabinoid – also known as the terpene entourage effect. The ingredient is extracted from legal industrial hemp varieties.

How does CBD work?

CBD works through the body's own endocannabinoid system. This complex system is part of the nervous system and consists of receptors called CB1 and CB2 receptors. CBD binds to these receptors like a key. The interaction serves to regulate various physical and psychological processes. Did you know that the body also has its own cannabinoids? CBD can support this as an exogenous cannabinoid supplied from outside.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are organic compounds responsible, among other things, for the scent of plants like peppermint, hemp, or thyme. Terpenes contribute to the effect of CBD oil and can achieve optimized effects in combination with cannabinoids.
