WF/2020 is a new interpretation of a secret 19th-century patchouli formula by Catherine Selig.

Meinrad Hilfiger was a 19th-century master glove maker and perfumer. His secret recipe manuscript was passed down from generation to generation. Using modern ingredients, his great-granddaughter gave the authentic perfume a contemporary interpretation. This modern version of a timeless formula is comparable to Hermès’ Kelly bag: often reinterpreted, yet always true to its original design.

Imagine a dark and cool morning in Grasse, where French farmers harvest a special rose before sunrise. They handpick the delicate petals while the fresh morning dew still clings to them, following a tradition passed down through generations in their families. Equally old is the artisanal process by which they extract the oil by hand from the petals. It takes 1 ton of these rose petals—enough to fill a barn—to produce just 1 kg of the rose you find in WF/2020.
