Make-up with Skincare Benefits: Why Your Foundation Is Just as Good as a Serum

Until a few decades ago, natural cosmetic makeup often required compromises. Coverage was limited, textures dull, and colors lacked nuance. Today, this looks very different – thanks to technical innovations, natural cosmetic makeup merges with the benefits of modern skincare and is on par with conventional products in terms of performance. With one big difference: natural cosmetics avoid microplastics and other harmful substances like silicones, parabens, or mineral oils.

Advances in the formulation of natural cosmetic makeup are especially evident in foundations that are as nourishing as a serum, concealers that tighten the eye area with active ingredients like Tightenyl, or blushers that reduce free radicals in the skin with antioxidants. Clean beauty is no longer just a nice extra but convinces with real effectiveness.

A primer serves as a base to refine the skin's appearance and extend the longevity of foundation, concealer, and more. This is partly because color pigments are now ground micro-finely, allowing them to blend invisibly into the skin’s structure. Additionally, nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or ceramides, combined with panthenol or plant-based squalane, ensure the skin stays supple all day, protected from drying out, and still looks fresh after hours. Moreover, some of these active ingredients strengthen the skin barrier in the long term.

Most serum foundations and tinted day creams are even designed so that their nourishing formulas often suffice as the only skincare needed, making the use of separate serum or face cream unnecessary. You don’t have to compromise on coverage either: even high coverage foundations contain nourishing ingredients and oils that keep skin smooth. Additionally, many foundations today offer built-in sun protection (SPF) that reliably protects skin from UV damage.

Concealers are no longer just for covering dark circles, blemishes, and redness. Innovative formulations combine makeup with active ingredients also found in eye care, such as the active ingredient Tightenyl, a plant-based alternative to retinol. These versatile textures, whether for cheeks, eyelids, or lips, combine color pigments with active skincare ingredients: hyaluronic acid, squalane, and aloe vera provide a plump, fresh skin feel and prevent drying out. At the same time, ceramides and plant oils strengthen the natural skin barrier, protect against moisture loss, and soothe sensitive areas like the delicate eye area.
